Hi guys. With India most famous IPL going to take place in a short period of time it is time now for the teams to select the players they want.In other terms IPL bidding. It is going to be conducted in a weeks time and it is expected that some of the English players including Flint off and Pieter sen is going to be bidded to the highest amounts. It is must to remember that Dhoni was bidded to the highest of the amounts for 7.5 crores in the previous IPL.Dunno who will be the luckiest ih this IPL season. Thanks for your time.Atleast this time the Chennai Super kings will go through the finals
Panaji: Kevin Pietersen and Andrew Flintoff became the costliest players in IPL history as the two were each sold for $1.55 million (Rs 7.35 crore) at the IPL auction on Friday.
The beleaguered Bangalore Royal Challengers successfully bid for Pietersen, while last year's runners-up Chennai Super Kings bid the highest for the England all-rounder which set the new record, overtaking the $1.5 million bid last year for Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
Only 17 players were on sale at the IPL auction here on Friday, and fewer were bid for. But the presence of England stars made for frantic bidding.
With the teams's spending limit set at $2 million each, teams were cautious in their bidding. Pietersen's appreciation was only a fraction of his base price of $1.35 million, as was Flintoff's $900,000.
Jean-Paul Duminy thus became one of the prized catches of the auction, as Mumbai Indians' $950,000-bid for the South African batting sensation raised his value over three times.
Bangladesh pacer Mashrafe Mortaza's bid at the closing round of the auction made for an intriguing duel between Kolkata Knight Riders and Kings XI Punjab with the Knight Riders finally securing him for $600,000, an astonishing 1100 per cent appreciation on his base price of $50,000.
Mortaza's captain Mohammad Ashraful, though, remained unsold during the auction, only to be bought by Mumbai Indians to fill their last slot for $75,000. Bangladesh's player of the season, Shakib-Al-Hasan, however, wasn't bid for.
The first round of auctions saw Shaun Tait, the Australian speedster, being sold to defending champions Rajasthan Royals for $375,000, before Duminy, Pietersen and Flintoff went under the hammer.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni attracted the highest price of $1.5 million per season in Wednesday's player auction for the lucrative new Indian Premier League.
Chennai acquired the services of India limited-overs captain Dhoni, a wicketkeeper-batsman, on a three-year contract to kickstart the Twenty20 IPL competition.
The bidding for Dhoni was aggressive with the last leg closely fought between southern India's Chennai and western metropolis of Mumbai. All teams jointly burst into applause when Chennai first raised the bid to $1million.
Australia allrounder Andrew Symonds attracted the next highest price -- US$1.35 million from Hyderabad, more than five times his base price where bidding began.
Bids for Symonds came in fast, with Hyderabad edging out Mumbai to secure his services.
Sri Lanka's 38-year-old opening batsman and former skipper Sanath Jayasuriya went for $975,000 to Mumbai, which also spent lavishly on India offspinner Harbhajan Singh.
India allrounder Irfan Pathan attracted a bid of $925,000 from Mohali, while South African Jacques Kallis was sold for $900,000 to Bangalore.
Mohali team's owners were jubilant with the successful bid of $900,000 for Australia paceman Brett Lee, with businessman Ness Wadia pumping his fist and hugging partner and Bollywood actress Preity Zinta.
Australia captain Ricky Ponting went to Kolkata, only modestly over his starting price. The Jaipur team was among the first to bid for Ponting, but Kolkata won the bidding contest after billionaire distiller Vijay Mallya's Bangalore team bowed out.
The selection of Ponting will make for a collection of strong leaders at Kolkata, which is expected to be coached by former Australia coach John Buchanan, and which also has India's former test captain Sourav Ganguly.
