THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Bharatiya Janata Party has demanded the Chief Election Commissioner and State Chief Electoral Officer to change Lok Sabha election dates in Kerala, as the dates would coincide with ‘Vishu’ celebrations.

In a statement issued here on Monday, BJP state president P.K. Krishnadas said that the decision to conduct Lok Sabha elections on Vishu days was inappropriate and an insult to Keralites.

‘’As per the schedule, the election will be on April 16 and the campaign should end on April 14, the Vishu day. Normally, Keralites will engage in Vishu celebrations on April 13, 14, and 15. The present decision to conduct election on these days has been taken without considering the interest of the public. In view of this situation, the Chief Election Commissioner and State Chief Electoral Officer should revise the dates,’’ he said.
