‘I am not in love with anyone’ – Priyamani says so
Posted by sankar Labels: kollywood, movies, news

Actress Priyamani is so pitiable now as rumors are pinching her so hardly. First with Prithviraj and now with Tarun: She’s miserably linked with every pretty actor in town.
Priyamani has finally broken down with frustration and comes up with an open statement. ‘Please stop writing cock and bull stories on me.
Recently, I bought an INNOVA car with my own money I earned. And none presented me so. For next two years I will be completely focusing on my career and so, there’s no room for any romance. Earlier, when rumors linked Prithviraj and Priyamani, it was due to precious gifts he presented.Looks like valuable gifts are really costing a lot for Priyamani…

Priya Vasudev Mani Iyer (Tamil: பிரியமணி) (born on April 6, 1983), better known by her stage name Priyamani, is an Indian film actress and model who has acted in several Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam language films. She is best known for earning a National Film Award for Best Actress for her role in the 2006 Tamil film Paruthi Veeran directed by Ameer Sultan. She is the cousin of Bollywood actress Vidya Balan.

Priyamani was born on June 4, 1984 in a Tamil Iyer family, to Vausdev Mani Iyer and Latha Mani Iyer in Palakkad, Kerala. She grew up and schooled in Bangalore, Karnataka. As a result of her dynamic exposure in different South Indian states, she speaks Tamil,Hindi, Malayalam, Kannada and Telugu. After completing her schooling, Priyamani was roped in to model for print advertisements. As a subsequent result of her extended modelling, she began to earn opportunities to star in films. After being approached by several directors and being considered for roles, she finally starred in director Bharathiraja's film Kangalal Kaidhu Sei which was released in 2004.[1] She is currently doing her final year of B.A. Psychology.

Early career

Her debut film Kangalal Kaidhu Sei in Tamil flopped when released in 2004, and her Telugu debut Evare Atagaadu too sank without a trace. Priyamani then made her debut in her native film industry, Malayalam, where she starred opposite another rising actor who would go on to establish himself as a popular actor in Tamil as well, Prithviraj Sukumaran, through the film Satyam [disambiguation needed] but the film failed to do well in the box-office either. Despite the failures, she was hired by another revered Tamil film director and cinematographer Balu Mahendra to star opposite rising Tamil star Dhanush in the 2005 drama Adhu Oru Kana Kaalam. She won tremendous acclaim for her performance in the film, but the film's under-performance meant that box-office success still eluded her.

[edit] Success in Telugu

Priyamani found success coming for her finally in the year 2006, when she starred opposite veteran Telugu actor Jagapathi Babu in the film Pellaina Kothalo, a film about a newly-wed couple. The film was a surprise hit given its low budget and modest star cast and propelled Priyamani to fame in Tollywood.

[edit] Paruthi Veeran and the future

After three years in search of the elusive film that will make her get noticed, Priyamani managed to prove both her acting credentials and also fame appeal with the 2006 film Paruthi Veeran, directed by another respected Tamil director, Ameer Sultan. She was paired alongside debutant Karthi Sivakumar, who is the younger brother of popular Tamil star Surya Sivakumar. A rural subject which told the story of a notorious young villager in Madurai, the film won tremendous critical acclaim and also became a surprise box-office blockbuster. Priyamani's performance was anonymously praised and she went on to win the Indian National Award for best actress, followed by the a Filmfare award, a Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Actress and also an award at the Osian's Cinefan Festival of Asian and Arab Cinema.

She had another blockbuster in Telugu, starring opposite Jr. NTR in the 2007 film Yamadonga and found decent box-office success with the Tamil film Malaikottai opposite Vishal.

She again won huge critical acclaim in 2008 for her role in the Malayalam film Thirakkatha, in which she played a role based on the turbulent real life story of late film actress Sri Vidya.[2]

Priyamani is being paired for the third time with good friend and actor Prithviraj Sukumaran for her next Tamil film Ninaithale Inikkum, which is a remake of Malayalam blockbuster Classmates [disambiguation needed]. This is the pair's first association in Tamil. She is also acting in a commercial entertainer opposite Bharath, in a film called Arumugam, apart from acting in a Telugu film called Drona opposite young actor Nitin.

However, her biggest project in the pipeline happened when she was hired by ace Indian director Mani Ratnam for his next bilingual film Ashokavanam. Priyamani's co-stars in the film include Prithviraj Sukumaran, Vikram and also former Miss World Aishwarya Rai.[3].She will also make her Kannada film debut in the film Raam opposite Kannada actor Puneet Rajkumar.

Bollywood Actress : Pretty Priyamani
85

Priyamani: Yes of course. Even though I stay in Bangalore, I was born in an Iyer family at Palakkad and my mother is from Thiruvananthapuram. My father is Vasudeva Mani who owns an automobile factory. My mother Latha Mani was an international badminton player and was also working in UBI as an assistant manager but took VRS when I came into the field.I am very familiar with Malayalam films.I like KPAC Lalitha very much. My movie 'Satyam' opposite Prithviraj did well in theatres.

Priyamani: Both are two different personalities.Bharathiraja is an extrovert . He is very sensitive and emotional in nature. Where as in Balu Mahendra's set you will hardly see any of the usual scenes that you will see during the shooting. There will be complete silence on the sets of Balu Mahendra. He is quite intense and serious.I am very lucky to have acted with two great directors.

Priyamani: A streak of bad health pulled me down very badly. The first schedule lasted for about 32 days and the songs were picturised in Switzerland. For this entire schedule I was laid down with fever . The second schedule was in scenic Sri Lanka and I was down with an attack of typhoid but still continued to work.

The grand daughter of Kamala Kailas a celebrated clasical singer, and daughter of Vasudeva Mani and Latha Mani, Priyamani was born in 1984 and brought up in Palakkad. A very naughty girl in her school days, Priyamani is a very talkative girl who loves acting, music, dance, ice creams, chocolates, puppies and kittens.

This cute girl has modelled for Kancheepuram silks, Erode silks and Lakshmi silks. She made her entry into the film field after finishing her 12th standard with Bharatiraja's 'Kangalal Kaithi Sei'. She debuted as the heroine of this tamil film which didn't really do well in the box office.

Her first real hit was Balu Mahendra's 'Adhu Oru Kana Kaalam', which did well at the box-office. Priyamani acted in some Malayalam and Telugu movies as well. She made her Telugu debut in 'Pellaina Kothalo' with Jagapati Babu and found her fame with this film. Her Malayalam film 'Satyam' also did well in the box office.

Mammooty, Mohanlal and Dilip are her favorite actors of this pretty girl who loves chatting with people.

Excerpts from an interview with her:

Q: Your grandmother Kamala Kailas is a celebrated classical singer. Did you also take up singing?

Priyamani: I like music and used to sing.I never took it up as a profession. Right from school days I used to model and this led me to films.

Q: How did you enter films?

Priyamani: I used to model for textiles and jewellery shops. Seeing my photos, many approached me with offers but I rejected everything. I wasn't interested in films. Soon after my 12th Std, when I was offered the heroine's role in Bharatiraja's film I could not reject. He is known for discovering many talents like Revathi, Radhika, Radha etc. Being in a Bharathiraja film is like being in quality film.
