The Union Bank of India is gearing up for a massive business expansion across the country over the next few months with an aim to touch a business of Rs 3,00,000 crore by 2010.

The bank that opened its 2501 branch here today, will add another 500 branches to its count by September 2009 to take its overall business to Rs 3,00,000 crore by 2010.

"At the end of December 2008, our business mix was Rs 2,20,000 crore. This takes us closer to our vision of becoming a large, diversified bank with global presence," UBI Chairman and Managing Director M V Nair said at the inauguration of the new branch here today.

He said the UBI became the PSU bank in the country to network all branches of its regional rural banks (RRBs).

The UBI has sponsored two RRBs Kashi Gomati Samyut Gramin Bank in Uttar Pradesh and Rewa Sidhi Gramin Bank in Madhya Pradesh.

"There are 432 branches of the two RRBs sponsored by us. By the end of September this year, all these branches will offer core banking solutions (CBS). CBS-enabled branches of RRBs will provide anywhere banking and Automated Teller Machine facilities to customers," Nair added.

He said the technological initiatives launched by UBI gave a boost to financial inclusion, with increased support to agriculture sector, trade and other productive segments. PTI DBV.
